IPCC recycles global doom and wants a small part of everything you own

11/8/2014

Gullible journalists are swooning today with more and glorious prophesies of disaster.
This from the team that relies on simulations that not only fail on global scales1, but they can’t predictregional2, local3, short term, continental, or polar effects4 either. They are also wrong about humidity5,rainfall6a,6b,6cdrought7 and clouds8, as well as the all-important upper tropospheric patterns too.9, 10
Speaking to the BBC earlier, Dr Pachaudri said today’s announcement was, categorically, the “strongest, most robust and most comprehensive” document that the IPCC has produced.  — BBC
They are robustly, comprehensively, and consistently wrong.  But it’s OK, they only want 0.06% of GDP (for now).
The IPCC says that the cost of taking action to keep the rise in temperature under 2 degrees C over the next 76 years will cost about 0.06% of GDP every year. Over the same period, world GDP is expected to grow at least 300%.  –  BBC
The religious leader has returned from the mount, for he hath heard the word of the God:
“BAN KI-MOON: Science has spoken.” – ABC
Who knew the name of God was “science”?
What do we call the people who get nearly every prediction wrong? What else  –  “the world’s top scientists”  (Jake Sturmer, ABC) The only rule when reporting IPCC predictions is to never ask a hard question.
It’s all about power in Paris in 2015. How much of the world’s GDP will they grab?   — As much as we let them.
Can’t wait to get your hands on the “new” IPCC Synthesis Report? Download a copy here.  It has all the same politically picked factoids and projections of storms, plagues, pestilence and doom you’ve come to expect.
What you won’t find is an verified explanation for The Pause (or what might really be The Plateau), or the reason the world warmed up for the Medieval Warm Period or cooled down for the Little Ice Age.  (CO2 levels were constant for the 2,000 years before 1750, yet the climate changed!). You won’t find out why Antarctic Sea Ice hit record highs, or where the missing heat has gone. Nor will you see an upfront admission that the models expected (depended on) humidity levels rising at 10km above the equator but that 28 million radiosondes found humidity decreased instead. This detail — like all the inconvenient ones that matter — will be disguised somewhere deep in a subclause. It may contain the best observations about the most important feedback there is, but don’t expect the IPCC to say so in the “summary for policy makers”.
Don’t expect the IPCC to mention that their models don’t include solar magnetic effects, lunar atmospheric tides, or that humans poured out 30% of their total emissions during a time when the Earth did not warm as expected.
Help warn the ABC about the IPCC’s scientific ability. Vote here.

A Russian hacking campaign against U.S. critical infrastructure has gone on since 2011 and puts hundreds of thousands of Americans at risk.
Much of the nation’s critical infrastructure has been compromised by a “Trojan Horse” malware program, which puts everything from nuclear power plants to power grids at risk, national security sources toldABC News on Thursday. The Department of Homeland Security also released a bulletin on the “BlackEnergy” malware, which is connected to Russia’s “Sandworm Team.”
In October it was revealed that Russian Sandworm hackers spied on NATO, Ukraine and the European Union since 2009 by taking advantage of a previously unknown vulnerability found on Microsoft Windows operating systems. The company fixed the problem shortly after it was announced in conjunction with the cybersecurity firm iSight Partners.
“Analysis of the technical findings in the two reports shows linkages in the shared command and control infrastructure between the [BlackEnergy and Sandworm] campaigns, suggesting both are part of a broader campaign by the same threat actor,” the DHS bulletin said, ABCreported.
The network’s sources said they believe the malware is reminiscent of “the old, Cold War playbook,” where a devastating U.S. cyberattack on Russian interests would provoke a response that would guarantee mutually assured destruction.
Russia is also believed to be behind July’s cyberattack on JPMorgan Chase & Co. that compromised the names, addresses, phone numbers and contact information of over 83 million people. The company was unable to completely shut out its attackers until August.
“It was a huge surprise that they were able to compromise a huge bank like JPMorgan,” said Al Pascual, a security analyst with Javelin Strategy and Research, told the Times Oct. 3. “It scared the pants off many people.”
Update: The Nuclear Energy Institute challengedABC’s reporting on Friday via its Twitter account, saying that the nuclear sector “recently received classified briefing by DHS on this Russian malware campaign,” and that “U.S. nuclear plants are isolated from external networks.”

Conflict Kitchen closes indefinitely after death threat

Oakland restaurant Conflict Kitchen has closed until further notice after receiving a letter containing death threats, according to a post on its Facebook page.
Conflict Kitchen will remain closed until the credibility of the letter is confirmed by police, according to the post. The restaurant in Schenley Plaza serves foods from countries with which the United States is in conflict.
Jon Rubin, listed as the restaurant’s spokesman on its website, referred questions about the Facebook post to police.
Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Sonya Toler was not available for comment Friday night, and attempts to reach anyone at the restaurant Friday evening were unsuccessful.
Conflict Kitchen recently has been the focus of controversy over its serving of Palestinian food with anti-Israel messages on the food wrappers.

Newly released emails show Holder used terse language to describe his feelings about some Justice Department prosecutors who were critical of him during the fallout from the Fast and Furious gun-walking scandal.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Newly released emails show Attorney General Eric Holder said that Justice Department prosecutors who were critical of the department's handling of the fallout of the Fast and Furious gun-walking scandal could "kiss my ass."
Operation Fast and Furious was a botched effort by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to track firearms across the Southwest border. Revelations about it created a political firestorm, leading to congressional investigations and turnover within the ATF and Justice Department.
The Justice Department selectively provided a batch of emails this week to the House Oversight and Government Reform CommitteeThe Associated Press obtained the emails on Friday.
House Republicans, who have subpoenaed for thousands of emails and went to federal court for access to the documents, have long promoted the idea that Holder and other top-level Justice Department officials knew that federal agents had engaged in a risky tactic known as "gun-walking."
The Justice Department's inspector general found no evidence that Holder was aware of the tactic, in which ATF agents tried to track the flow of illegal guns from the United States into Mexico but instead lost track of many of the weapons.
In one email from March 2011, after being sent a news story about the Fast and Furious investigation, Holder told staff, "I hope there is another side to the story." Later, after the ATF deputy director assured Holder aides that "we did not allow guns to walk," Holder responded to staff with, "Do they really, really know?"
That August, Holder was told by staff that about 25 U.S. attorneys was upset that the resignation ofDennis Burke, then the U.S. attorney in Arizona, was announced simultaneously with the reassignment of ATF Acting Director Ken Melson. Holder wondered "why wouldn't we get the benefit of the doubt. Assume we're doing things for the right reasons and in the right way."
Holder later added, "Some people can kiss my ass."

"Global" Failure Seeks Lame Duck Federal Loan to Pay Off It's Federal Loan

World's largest solar plant applying for federal grant to pay off federal loan

NOW PLAYING
Struggling solar thermal plant seeks huge taxpayer bailout
After already receiving a controversial $1.6 billion construction loan from U.S. taxpayers, the wealthy investors of a California solar power plant now want a $539 million federal grant to pay off their federal loan.
"This is an attempt by very large cash generating companies that have billions on their balance sheet to get a federal bailout, i.e. a bailout from us - the taxpayer for their pet project," said Reason Foundation VP of Research Julian Morris. "It's actually rather obscene."
The Ivanpah solar electric generating plant is owned by Google and renewable energy giant NRG, which are responsible for paying off their federal loan. If approved by the U.S. Treasury, the two corporations will not use their own money, but taxpayer cash to pay off 30 percent of the cost of their plant, but taxpayers will receive none of the millions in revenues the plant will generate over the next 30 years.
"They're already paying less than the market rate," said Morris, author of a lengthy report detailing alleged cronyism and corruption in the Obama administration's green energy programs. "Now demanding or asking for a subsidy in the form of a grant directly paying off the loan is an egregious abuse."
NRG doesn't see it that way, telling Fox News the money is there for the taking."NRG believes in a clean and sustainable energy future and therefore participates in available government programs to develop and expand the use of clean energy to accelerate America’s energy independence." In 2013, the Obama administration handed out $18.5 billion in renewable energy grants, with $4.4 billion going to solar projects.
Ivanpah is the largest concentrated solar power plant in the world. It was unveiled in February with great fanfare. Dr. Ernest Moniz, the U.S. Secretary of Energy, justified taxpayers' investment at the time, saying, "We want to be technology leaders. It's good for our economy and it’s also good for helping stimulate the global transition to low carbon."
But since then the plant has not lived up to its clean energy promise. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the plant produced only about a quarter of the power it's supposed to, a disappointing 254,263 megawatt-hours of electricity from January through August, not the million megawatt-hours it promised.
A NRG spokesman blamed the weather, saying the sun didn't shine as often as years of studies predicted. However by the four-year mark, NRG has "every confidence that the plant will function as anticipated for the life of the facility,"according to the company.
Touted as a clean, green energy, some environmentalists have turned against concentrated solar as a technology, deeming it dangerous and a threat to wildlife. Unlike solar photovoltaics, which turn sunlight directly into electricity, CSP uses thousands of large mirrors to concentrate reflected sunlight into powerful beams aimed at “power towers.” The heat generates steam to turn turbines that create electricity.
The problem is that birds see the mirrors as water. As they approach, the 800º F solar beams roast any bird that happens to fly by. A recent study released by the California Energy Commission conducted by the Center for Biological Diversity called Ivanpah a “mega-trap” that will kill up to 28,000 birds a year.
The plants' owner at the time, BrightSource Energy, said it will likely kill only a thousand birds a year. BrightSource came under scrutiny by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and investigators found the company received direct “guidance and support from the White House” for how it obtained its $1.6 billion in federal loans.

No Vetting Required: Obama urging Senate to confirm attorney general nominee Loretta Lynch quickly

11/8/2014

April 28, 2014: Loretta Lynch, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York speaks during a news conference in New York. (AP)
President Obama chose Loretta Lynch, the U.S. attorney in Brooklyn, N.Y., as his nominee to replace outgoing Attorney General Eric Holder Friday.
Obama plans to announce Lynch’s nomination Saturday at a White House event. If confirmed, Lynch will become the first African-American woman in the job, succeeding Holder, who was the first African-American head of the Justice Department.
The ball is now in the new Senate’s court as to when Lynch’s confirmation will be. The White House has urged Senate officials to work out the timeline for her confirmation as soon as possible.
Democrats and Republicans have told the White House it would be difficult and damaging to the nominee politically to try to push her through while Democrats control of the Senate. Republicans will oversee her confirmation with the next Congress.
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who sits on the Judiciary Committee, has already indicated that he is unhappy Obama is making the nomination now, instead of during the new session, when Republicans will have the majority in both chambers.
“Democrat senators who just lost their seats shouldn't confirm (a) new Attorney General,” he tweeted on Friday. “(They) should be vetted by (the) new Congress.”
Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee, expressed "every confidence that Ms. Lynch will receive a very fair, but thorough, vetting by the Judiciary Committee."
"U.S. attorneys are rarely elevated directly to this position, so I look forward to learning more about her, how she will interact with Congress, and how she proposes to lead the department," Grassley said. "I'm hopeful that her tenure, if confirmed, will restore confidence in the attorney general as a politically independent voice for the American people."
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who presumably will become the majority leader in the next session, issued a statement Friday night urging the Senate to wait until January to vote on the nomination.
"Ms. Lynch will receive fair consideration by the Senate," he said. "And her nomination should be considered in the new Congress through regular order."
Lynch, 55, is a Harvard Law School graduate and popular prosecutor who is currently serving her second stint as U.S. attorney for Eastern New York, which covers Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and Long Island.
She received big praise from New York City mayor Bill De Blasio Friday as well.
“President Barack Obama has chosen a great New Yorker as the country’s highest-ranking law enforcement official,” he tweeted after learning the news about Lynch’s nomination.
"Ms. Lynch is a strong, independent prosecutor who has twice led one of the most important U.S. Attorney's offices in the country," White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said in a statement. "She will succeed Eric Holder, whose tenure has been marked by historic gains in the areas of criminal justice reform and civil rights enforcement."

Obamacare Could Face Large Numbers of Dropouts

11/8/2014

More than half the people who enrolled in Obamacare last year don’t plan to sign up again—and that’s bad news for the president’s  health care law.  A new Bankrate survey reveals that 53 percent of current ...The Fiscal Times

My Comment: I could have told you that. With deductibles as high as $6500 the low income will do what they have done for a long time and use the emergency room as their primary source of  health care. I have worked with poor people most of my life. With no assets to loose, they do not need to be protected from catastrophic expense.  If they run up hospital and doctor bills in the thousands and their wages are eventually garnished they will simply file bankruptcy. Unlike people with assets, a bankruptcy is not as devastating to people with no assets. Also, I never did think the low income would forgo the purchase of a sports starter jacket or cable TV to pay an insurance premium.  The desire for immediate gratification and lack of discipline and poor decision making is part of the reason they are poor to begin with.

Sixth Circuit Marriage Decision 'A Model' for Every Judge

11/8/2014

Press Release, WASHINGTON, D.C.- The United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit has ruled that marriage laws upholding the traditional definition of marriage between one man and one woman do not violate the U.S. Constitution. The ruling dealt with laws in Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, and Tennessee.

Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America, the nation's largest public policy women's organization, had this to say:

What Sixth Circuit Judge Jeffrey Sutton has given us is a model opinion for every judge in the nation. He showed a judicial restraint and humility that is much needed in our judiciary. Although it is true that 32 states have legalized same-sex 'marriage,' 22 of them had it foisted on them by activist judges who were compelled by personal preferences, not law.

As the Sixth Circuit said, clear Supreme Court precedent binds lower courts to uphold marriage laws, including the recent Windsor decision that many judges have manipulated to usurp them. Windsor says precisely that states are free to define marriage as they have done so throughout our history.

Most importantly, the court recognized what we all know, that it is both rational and reasonable for millions of Americans to believe marriage should be preserved for the union of one man and one woman. Despite opponents' efforts to shut down debate through name calling and job loss, millions of Americans still believe that the redefinition of marriage has religious, cultural, and economic consequences.

Today, we are seeing Christian business owners - bakers, photographers, and others - attacked for their religious convictions, and First Amendment freedoms have been usurped. This is in no small part due to the environment many judges have created in which any dissent to full support of same-sex "marriage" is seen as rooted in hate. Nothing could be further from the truth.

This decision and the backlash to liberal efforts to extort and shame people of faith have put an end to the idea of inevitability. The lessons of Roe v. Wade loom large as America struggles to balance individualism with religious and cultural standards. We applaud the Sixth Circuit for making an honest, wise contribution to the debate and for encouraging the American public to continue a healthy dialogue on the important issue of marriage. If there is any hope of a limited consensus on this issue, it stems from this decision.
