Contract snafu Bumps Teacher Salaries Unexpectedly High, some by almost $30K

The Monroe County schools superintendent said he thought the biggest pay raise for teachers this year would be about $2,000, but many are getting five to 15 times that amount because of a misinterp" Two teachers received a $29,000 pay raise, three got $20,000 more, eight got $15,000-plus more, two got $10,000-plus more and about six dozen others received raises ranging from $450 to $10,000. The raises come at a time when most public agencies are cutting staff, freezing salaries and not giving raises until the economy recovers. In all, the teachers' raises will cost $550,000 more than district officials...
