Presidential candidates Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich are destroying an already-weakened "Republican brand," increasing President Obama's chance of being re-elected next fall, says nationally syndicated talk-radio host Michael Savage.

"Romney is so silent, Gingrich is so dirty and Ron Paul is so crazy that Obama is surging," Savage told his "Savage Nation" audience last night.

Savage believes Mitt Romney is the only candidate in the GOP field capable of beating Obama, although he acknowledges that most conservatives don't find the former Massachusetts governor appealing.

"Of course Romney is a liberal Republican. Of course he is in the tradition of middle-of-the-roaders. Of course Romney is a milquetoast, and of course we would like someone more conservative," Savage said.

"However, I am a pragmatist," he emphasized. "Romney might be electable – although I'm not sure after Gingrich has gotten through with him – while Paul is unelectable, and Gingrich is so soiled with dirt that he is contemptible beyond being unelectable."

Savage said Gingrich "has so much baggage and is so old that his suitcase doesn't even have wheels on it."

Gingrich even looks like the prototypical corrupt politician, Savage said.

"If you were Steven Spielberg casting for the image of a Beltway bandit … corrupt, insider politician, you couldn't do any better than Gingrich," he said.

"I have never seen anyone who is as piggish, both in appearance and behavior, as Newt Gingrich on the political stage," Savage said. "He can't hide it."

Turning to Paul, Savage said the Texas congressman known for his isolationist, libertarian views is another gift to the Democratic Party.

"If Obama's team wanted to invent someone else on the other side to make Obama look mild and moderate and safe, they couldn't have done better than inventing Ron Paul," he said.

Savage said there is no difference between Paul's positions on many issues, particularly the threat of radical Islam, "and that of the psychotic, progressive leftists."

Savage pointed to Paul's support for legalization of marijuana and his insinuation that Islamic terrorists have some justification, claiming that Israel's "occupation" of the West Bank and American intervention in Muslim countries are the main reasons for their attacks.

"What matters to me is that he's a loose canon that is set to explode on the world stage, and it's not good for the survival of the United States of America," Savage said.

Savage has warned that if Obama wins re-election, America will become like Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's dictatorship.

His show airs live Monday through Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern. It can be heard online through stations such as WTNT in the nation's capital.

As WND reported, Savage's show is ranked No. 2 in listenership among all talk-radio shows streamed on the Internet, according to Talk Stream Live.
