GOP: Obama sings, Americans cry the blues

2.23.12

It hasn't taken long for his opponents to turn President Obama's jazz and blues party at the White House this week against him. Exhibit A: When he lands in Florida today to talk energy and raise money for his reelection campaign, Obama will be greeted by a Republican National Committee web ad about rising gas prices that has Floridians crying the blues.

The ad shows Obama singing during his White House of Blues night as a graphic shows gas prices soaring. While he cheerfully croons, "Come on, baby don't you want to go," the ad shows prices starting at $1.85 when he was inaugurated to $3.59 today.

“When President Obama moved into the White House three years ago, the national average of gas was $1.85 per gallon. Today, the average price of gas has risen to an astonishing $3.59 per gallon and is showing no signs of a decline,” said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus in a statement.

“Unfortunately for America, Barack Obama has had us all singin’ the blues with rising energy costs and failed energy policy. His recent rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline denied thousands of Americans jobs in addition to an affordable, secure energy source. In November, Americans will be able to send the president and his failed policies into retirement, where he will be able to sing the blues all day," he adds.

The White House said Obama's not blind to the price of gas. “He’s very aware of the impact that it has and fully understands the anxiety it creates,” spokesman Jay Carney said.
