Democrat Environmental Official Forced To Resign Over Menacing Phone Call

February 29, 2012

Wait until you read this weasel’s bullshitty bullshit story.

Hartford Courant

Deputy state Energy and Environment Commissioner Jonathan Schrag submitted his forced resignation Wednesday morning, a day after a Courant columnist disclosed that a menacing call was placed from Schrag’s cellphone to the leader of a conservative women’s group last week.

The departure came less than 20 hours after Kevin Rennie‘s column about the call was posted on courant.com.

Officials from the administration of Gov. Dannell P. Malloy had said Tuesday night that they would investigate whether Schrag made the call, including an examination of outgoing calls and billing records for his cellphone. Their next statement was to announce Schrag’s resignation shortly before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Last Thursday at 11:45 p.m., Cynthia David of Essex, the leader of a conservative women’s group, received the following message in Schrag’s voice on her voicemail: “We are calling from the Democratic Electronic Monitoring Service. We understand that you are an emailer with respect to Democratic candidates. We wish you to know that youre emails are being observed. Thank you.”

The conservative group had raised questions in a recent email about a state environmental initiative.

Schrag Tuesday denied making the call, and said he didn’t know who made it or how. He did acknowledge that it was his voice; he said he had made the comment in a social setting, and someone must have recorded it and then found a way to play it in the late-night phone call to David. Also, Schrag added, whoever did it somehow managed to make Schrag’s cellphone number come up on David’s caller ID.
