Glenn Beck dedicated his Wednesday evening program to an in-depth discussion on emergency preparedness. Welcoming a panel of experts including Walt Mayfield of the Amateur Radio Relay League, Independence U.S.A.’s Frank Belcastro and survival podcaster Jack Spirko, Glenn tackled the core tenets of survivalism.
Storing at least 90-days worth of food in the event of an unexpected job loss is a good idea and place to start, according to Spirko. It is also an easy preparedness step that many people overlook. He also believes that if people are taught to look after themselves, they will be emboldened to resist increasing government intervention that seeks to take away more and more liberties each day.
Among the many options open to people who are seeking to better prepare, the panel delved into the benefits of food insurance and the importance of sharing one’s personal experience with preparedness with others.
Belcastro said that preparedness is “not something that should be kept under wraps,” but instead shared as it helps to educate people and bring communities together.
Later on in the segment, Glenn hosted an emergency preparedness Q&A session between the panel and audience.
When asked what the “one thing is” that everyone needs to do to be prepared in the event of an unforeseen catastrophe, the answers ranged in response from stressing the importance of communication to suggesting that no one store their entire survival stockpile in one place.
Among the “must-haves,” according to the panel, are water, freeze-dried food with an extended shelf life and different locations in which to store these items.
It’s not about “stuff,” it’s a “mindset, knowledge and skill set.”
Glenn then shared his key piece of advice for those eager to learn how to prepare and survive.
“It’s why I moved to Texas,” he started. “To be surrounded by good, like-minded people.” Glenn stressed how vital it is to be with others who share similar goals, values and ideals, even if their opinions at times may differ from your own.
“We know we’re going from [and in] the right direction and that usually comes from a belief in God,” he explained.
Glenn said that everyone should start learning to prepare by obtaining a history book. Once read, he assured that a familiar set of patterns and solutions will be revealed, as it always has from time immemorial.
“You can take the Bible and take out the names, replace it with current names and you will see the patterns… including those of yourself.”
