To stop Romney’s momentum, Dems counting on … Joe Biden

10.08.12 Posted by: Doug Brady C4P No, I’m not making this up. You know things can’t be going well at Obama headquarters in Chicago when his campaign is forced to turn to Captain Gaffetastic to stop the bleeding. Democratic strategists are eyeing the forthcoming debate between Vice President Biden and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) with a mix of hope and nervousness in the wake of President Obama’s widely panned performance in his leadoff encounter with Mitt Romney Wednesday night. On the plus side, some Democrats feel that a strong performance from Biden next Thursday could turn the page on the president’s near-debacle in Denver. But they also worry that Biden’s legendary capacity to state his views in an inartful fashion could backfire. Backfire? Gee, ya think? I have no inside information, but somehow I doubt Team Obama pictured themselves in a situation where they’d have to rely on Slow Joe to turn things around. Let’s hope Biden is given as much freedom as possible to unleash those “rhetorical flourishes” for which he’s so famous. What could possibly go wrong?
