Deputies: Robber met with gunfire inside Bakersfield home(CA)

12.12.12

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A resident shot an alleged robber Tuesday morning in east Bakersfield, according to the Kern County Sheriff's Office.

The resident heard someone remove a screen and break a kitchen window to gain access to his home, so the resident armed himself with a handgun, the sheriff's office said.

The suspect and resident came face to face in the hallway of the East Brundage Lane home, and the resident shot the suspect at least twice in the upper body.

The alleged intruder, 26-year-old Arturo Jose Luis Estrada, got out of the house and stumbled about a half block down the sidewalk before collapsing. That's where deputies found him.

Estrada is expected to survive and has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery, the sheriff's office said.

The resident, whose name was withheld, was detained at the scene for questioning and released pending further investigation.

An unidentified woman was possibly involved in the alleged robbery, but she ran off before deputies arrived.
