Several businesses at a shopping center in San Dimas were evacuated tonight as police investigate whether an explosive device was planted in the parking lot.
“We don’t know if it’s real or fake or a toy,” said L.A. County Sheriff's Sgt. Vicki Gregory. “We’re going to err on the side of caution and look into it.”
Deputies arrived at the retail center at 552 West Arrow Highway just after 7:30 p.m. after a caller reported seeing what looked like a hand grenade in the lot.
The arson and explosives unit was investigating the item.
People were evacuated from nearby restaurants, including a Denny’s and an Applebee’s. Guests at a Motel 6 were told to remain inside.
