Silver Spring Township police arrest two men for catalytic converter thefts

Detectives in Silver Spring Township arrested two men they believe were behind the theft of over $81,558 in car parts stolen from a Dodge dealership on Carlisle Pike last weekend.

Spencer Thomas, 23, of Enola, and Matthew Fordyce, also 23, of Carlisle, were arrested Sunday and were being held in Cumberland County Prison Monday, according to online court records.

As of Monday evening, neither Thomas nor Fordyce had posted their separate $7,500 bail amounts, the records state.

Both men admitted to stealing 15 catalytic converters between 5 p.m. March 2 and 7 a.m. March 4 from newer model diesel-fueled Dodge trucks parked in the parking lot of Cumberland Valley Motors at 6720 Carlisle Pike, police said.

The men then took the converters to two scrapyards to sell them, according to police.

Both men were charged with four counts each of theft, conspiracy to commit theft, receiving stolen property and conspiracy to receive stolen property, as well as one count each for the possession of drug paraphernalia, according to court records.

Both Thomas and Fordyce were scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Paula P. Correal on March 27, records state.
