MSNBC falsely identifies segregationist George Wallace as a Republican

June 12, 2013

According to MSNBC, former Alabama Gov. George Wallace, who famously coined the phrase “segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever,” is a Republican.

Mr. Wallace is greatly known for his notorious “Stand in the Schoolhouse Door,” when he physically blocked black students Vivian Malone and James Hood as they attempted to attend classes at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

He also ran for president four times — three times as a Democrat and once as an Independent.

The “Stand in the Schoolhouse Door” occurred exactly 50 years ago today, and marking the anniversary, MSNBC’s “All In with Chris Hayes” showed a photo of the governor — identifiying him as “(R) Alabama,” National Review Online reported.
