Juan Jose Medrano was pulled over in his Camry by the Cameron County Sheriff's Department on Thursday for a traffic violation.
Medrano consented to a vehicular search and that's when deputies found a Berreta handgun and a bundle of brown pasty substance.
The substance was tested, and the results came back positive for heroin.
Heroin is a Schedule I controlled substance in the U.S.
