Coming to a Big Brother near you: Police, justice officials use public transport smart card info

December 29, 2013

TLS, the company which operates the public transport smart card ov-chipkaart, has confirmed it releases confidential information about users ‘several times a week’ to the police, the Telegraaf said on Friday.
The information is released in connection with missing persons and criminal investigations, the paper said. TLS keeps the information about people’s movements for a year.

According to the Telegraaf, the police are also using the databanks of the SHPV, which stores information relating to car parking, in their investigations. The SHPV keeps information for 13 weeks.

The organisation was previously under fire for supplying information to the tax office which is checking up on mileage claims made for company cars.
