FOUNTAIN CITY (WATE) - Community members met in Fountain City Park for a vigil to pray about climate change.
An organizer of the event said it was about a spiritual response to what's happening, referring to the droughts, rising sea levels, and disappearing glaciers.
Attendees hoped to make people aware of what they say is a real problem.
State Representative Gloria Johnson was invited to speak at the event.
"I think it's pretty clear when 97% of scientists say this is an issue and we can see what's happening, we need to do what we can," Johnson said. "So what this group does is really talk about what we can do at the city level, what can we do to help and how can we make that difference."
Organizers also said one effort the group is proud of is a petition for TVA to shut down coal power plants.
