Piers Morgan and CNN President Jeff Zucker have come to a mutual agreement to end Morgan's show, Piers Morgan Live, as early as next month, according to the New York Times.
"It's been a painful period and lately we have taken a bath in the ratings," Morgan told theTimes, possibly referencing a recent dust-up in which he clashed with Laverne Cox and Janet Mock during an interview about transgender issues.

Morgan, who replaced Larry King in the 9 o'clock timeslot in 2011, also specifically referenced his on-air discussion of issues such as gun control as something that has contributed to his show's low ratings. "Look, I am a British guy debating American cultural issues, including guns, which has been very polarizing, and there is no doubt that there are many in the audience who are tired of me banging on about it," he told the Times. "That's run its course and Jeff and I have been talking for some time about different ways of using me."
There's no word on who Morgan's successor will be. Morgan will likely remain at CNN in another capacity, according to the Times. "I'd like to do work - interviews with big celebrities and powerful people - that is better suited to what I do well and fit with what Jeff is trying to do with the network," he told the paper.
