HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -
Stephanie Bethel, spokeswoman for the Southern Nevada Health District, on Monday evening confirmed 14 people have tested positive for latent tuberculosis at Coronado High School.
Those who tested positive are not sick or contagious, Bethel said. The results followed a round of testing in late January, the second such round.
Bethel said more tests need to be performed and those who tested positive will be evaluated and treated if needed.
For now, there is no indication anyone is being kept from the school.
The tests were prompted in November 2013 when someone at the school was diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis. No one else on campus reported symptoms.
Health district Chief Health Officer Dr. Joe Iser said there is confusion between active and latent tuberculosis.
"Nine out of 10 people who develop latent TB will never come down with active TB," he said.
Only those with active tuberculosis can spread it through coughing.
