A Harlingen widow is in utter disbelief that a grandmother charged in a recent DWI wreck is the same woman who killed her husband in another drunk driving accident.
Norma Cisneros Martinez is once again charged with a DWI.
The 45-year-old woman crashed into a street light pole by Commerce Street and 77 Sunshine Strip last week.
Harlingen police said three of Martinez's grandchildren were inside the car at the time of the accident.
The children were not injured, but Martinez failed a sobriety test and was arrested at the site of the crash.
But that wasn't the case seven years ago when she crashed into a car off Ed Carey Drive and North 25th Street in Harlingen.
That night, Martinez crashed into a car killing Javier Rendon and injuring his wife Paula.
“I remember him telling me, cause I was the one driving and he is like, 'Paula, I can't breathe.'" Rendon said. "All of a sudden I blacked out and when I woke up I was in the hospital."
Rendon spent three months in the hospital with a broken pelvis and ribs.
During that time, Norma Cisneros Martinez was charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxicated assault.
Martinez was ultimately sentenced to 10 years probation for Javier's death.
That sentencing left Rendon upset and puzzled to this day.
"I don't understand why she was let go, the first time," Rendon said.
Right now, Martinez remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail under $300,000 in bonds.
It's not clear how last week's arrest will affect Martinez's probation.
