ALAMOSA, Colo. (AP) - The Alamosa County Sheriff's Office is planning to get its own armored vehicle from the U.S. military.
The heavily armored vehicle is valued at $460,000, but it will cost the county nothing, except for the $2,000 to drive it from Texas.
According to the Alamosa Valley Courier, sheriff Dave Stong says the vehicle will be used for high-risk search warrants, arrest warrants and SWAT operations.
The vehicle was designed for use in Afghanistan, but it is no longer needed by the military. The vehicle's turrets have been removed, but can hold at least 11 officers and it is mine-resistant.
