MISSION, TEXAS (AP) -- The Honduran government has condemned the attack by a U.S. Border Patrol agent on three Honduran women and asks for U.S. assistance, protection and compensation for the victims.
Agent Esteban Manzanares, who officials say committed suicide early Thursday morning, is accused of driving the three away from the river and assaulting them after they surrendered.
In a statement translated from the original Spanish by The Associated Press, the Honduran foreign ministry said the government and people of the Central American nation "strongly condemn the moral, emotional and physical aggression" by the agent.
The ministry also asked the U.S. government for a thorough investigation of the incident, along with psychological and medical assistance, financial compensation and legal immigration status for the victims.
