A Bellevue girl missing for about four days was found safe Thursday night in Indianapolis.

Michaela Wells, 16, was located at a residence there about 8:20 p.m. Authorities took her into custody and said she is in good health.

Officer Laurie Synowiecki, a Bellevue police spokeswoman, declined to say whether Michaela left home voluntarily or against her will.

She declined to provide further details, including whether anyone in the case had been arrested.

The FBI and Indiana authorities assisted in locating the girl.

Theresa Norris, Michaela's mother, said she buckled at the knees when the FBI came to her door Thursday night with the good news. Her husband, Bruce Norris, and Michaela's siblings also were there.

“It is such a relief and excitement all in one,” Theresa Norris said. “We have questions. I am as anxious for details as all of you are.”

She said she will make Michaela her favorite snack when she gets back home — a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Bellevue Police Chief Mark Elbert posted a statement on the department's Facebook page that said in part:

“Our friends at the FBI were nothing short of outstanding. Our sincere appreciation to them and the local authorities in Indiana that helped seal the deal in literally just a few hours upon locking in the target. Grateful!''

Michaela had last been seen about 8:30 p.m. Sunday at her Bellevue home. She told her grandmother she was taking out the trash and did not return.

Michaela represents Nebraska in the USA National Miss pageant, a relatively new pageant that hasn't yet had a Nebraska competition, a pageant official said.

Bellevue police said Wednesday at a press conference that they did not believe Michaela was in danger or that foul play was suspected. Elbert characterized the case then as a missing persons case.
