A death panel for Vets?

A Maryland health staffing company violated federal law when it refused to hire a job applicant to sit with patients at a Veterans Administration hospital because he is HIV positive, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission claims in a federal lawsuit filed Monday.

The man, identified as John Doe, applied for the position in January 2012 at the Pittsburgh office of Maxim Healthcare Services Inc. of Columbia, Md., the lawsuit says.

The company, which does business as Maxim Staffing Solutions, told the man in May 2012 that it couldn't hire him, the lawsuit says.

A company spokesperson couldn't be reached for comment.
