Albuquerque police are investigating how flyers that encourage the killing of officers found their way into copies of the Albuquerque Journal.
A spokesperson with APD said the flyers were stuck into newspapers, and a wife of an APD officer said one was even delivered to her doorstep.
The spokesperson said attacks and threats against police have been overwhelming at times. People have been calling in with death threats, their property has been vandalized multiple times, their social media sites have been inundated with various hate messages, and now these flyers.
Representatives of the Albuquerque Journal said they were notified Friday morning that the flyer that reads "Save A Life Kill A Cop" was inserted into quite a few of their newspapers.
Employees removed flyers in three racks just south of UNM near Central and one in Nob Hill. Journal representatives call it vandalism and tell KOB Eyewitness News 4 they are working with police to find those responsible.
Police said this is not a direct threat to the department but it affects the families of these officers. One actually made its way to an APD officer's home. The Albuquerque Journal said its carrier was not involved, and none of the officer's neighbors received the flyer. The Journal reports they have not seen any more of the flyers.
