Birds of a Feather: High-Level Mexican Trade Delegation Heading to Cuba

5/27/2014

MEXICO CITY – Mexican Economy Secretary Ildefonso Guajardo and several business leaders are visiting Cuba this week as part of an effort to expand trade in strategic areas, the Economy Secretariat said.

The delegation, which includes representatives of about 30 Mexican corporations, will be on the island Monday and Tuesday, the secretariat said in a statement.

Guajardo is scheduled to open the ProMexico trade office in Cuba “at a historic time for trade and investment between the two countries, with ample opportunities available in the pharmaceutical, food and beverage, industrial goods, infrastructure and tourism industries,” the secretariat said.

The economy secretary plans to participate in the Mexico-Cuba Business seminar, which will be attended by officials and business leaders from both countries.

The Mexican officials and business leaders are visiting Cuba “within the framework of relaunching relations between the two countries, updating the Caribbean country’s economic model, as well as the recent approval of the new Foreign Investment Law,” the Economy Secretariat said.

Bilateral trade totaled $386 million in 2013, doubling in the past 10 years, the secretariat said.
