Olivia Lee Reynolds, 65, Lesa Renee Coleman, 49, and Janice Lee Hart, 63, were arrested on Friday, and charged with felony voter fraud. Reynolds faces 26 counts, while Coleman is facing 20 counts and Hart is charged with 10 counts of voter fraud.
Reynolds is facing a $65,000 bond, while Coleman’s bond is set at $50,000 and Hart’s bond has been set at $25,000.
If convicted, Reynolds, Coleman and Hart could face up to 10 years in prison for each count. The three women are accused of falsifying absentee ballot applications or verification documents.
These arrests come after the Houston County Sheriff’s Office conducted 96 interviews in the wake of the August 6th Election. The results of that election were called into question, after Amos Newsome narrowly beat Lamesa Danzey to retain his Dothan City Commission District 2 seat.
Newsome received 119 of 124 absentee ballots in the election, beating Danzey by a total vote count of 362 to 348.
Investigators say Reynolds, Coleman and Hart are not accused of stealing existing ballots. Instead, authorities say the three women created false ballots and filled them out.
Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes says these arrests will not affect the outcome of the August election.
