This is the photo of Emily Hohenwarter, 12, of Lancaster, that was deleted from a post on Lancasteronline.com's Facebook page Sunday.
Less than a week after a story went viral about Facebook banning a Texas Tech cheerleader's African hunting photos, the social media giant did the same thing to a story on Lancasteronline.com's page Sunday about a local, 12-year-old girl who shot a bear in Canada.
The post featured a photo of Centerville Middle School eighth-grader Emily Hohenwarter of Lancaster posing with the bear she shot in Quebec last month while hunting with her father, Chad.
It also included a link to the story about Emily's adventure, which appeared onLancasteronline.com's website, and which ran on the Outdoors page of the Sunday News.
The post was placed on Lancasteronline.com's Facebook page around noon Sunday.
By 3:30 p.m., the posting had been viewed by more than 25,000 people, had been shared more than 60 times, was "liked" about 200 times and drew more than 150 comments.
The comments generally were split between people who objected to hunting and to the fact that Emily had killed a bear, and people who support hunting and Emily's right to have legally shot the bear.
Lancasteronline.com received only one request directly from a reader to remove the post from its page.
Sometime just before 4 p.m., the posting was removed by Facebook from Lancasteronline.com's page.
A notice from Facebook to the administrators of Lancasteronline.com's page stated the post contained content that did not meet with Facebook's community standards.
Lancasteronline.com is seeking an explanation from Facebook on the removal of its post.
