The office of U.S. Attorney Kenneth Polite announced the indictment of 45-year old Trina Marie Bourg on Friday in connection with a bribery investigation involving immigrants and their families.
According to a statement, Bourg worked as a court translator in Terrebonne Parish.
She’s accused of soliciting payments from people who were illegally in the United States.
Polite’s office claims Bourg told the immigrants that she would use the money to bribe officials to remove detainers or charges on the immigrants, helping them stay in the country.
If convicted, Polite’s office says Bourg could get 20 years in prison.
