Secret Service 'assessing' apparent ISIS flag photo taken in front of the White House

The Secret Service said it is aware of a photo that appears to show an image of an Islamic State flag in front of the White House but isn't commenting on its validity or what it could mean.

The photo, posted to Twitter Aug. 9, shows an image of a hand holding up a flag for Islamic State, also known as Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, on a smartphone, ABC News is reporting. The image appears to have been taken on Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House fence in an area that is visited by thousands of tourists each day.
The tweet contains the hashtag #AmessagefromISIStoUS and has the phrases "we are in your state, we are in your cities, we are in your streets. You are our goals everywhere."

Secret Service Spokesman Ed Donovan told ABC News it is taking "necessary and appropriate follow up steps," related to the images. "We have an intelligence division whose mission is to assess information that we receive every day for dangerousness or potential threat level."

The threat is the latest to come from the ultra-militant Iraqi group which has been the subject of U.S. airstrikes in recent days. The group earlier vowed to "raise the flag of Allah," at the White House.
