A protest soon turned heated between two groups who had different agendas.
The Movimiento del Valle and a local group of U.S. Defenders, with support from the Border Convey, both held their protests at the Brownsville & Matamoros International Bridge around 10 a.m. Saturday.
About 20 to 30 members of the U.S. Defenders protested to bring home U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi jailed in Mexico.
The group told Action 4 News they believe Sgt. Tahmooressi is being unjustly held.
Tahmooressi made international headlines when Mexican police in Tijuana arrested him with three guns in his truck back in March 2014.
He claims he was driving near the California/Mexico border where he made a wrong turn that took him to Mexico.
The Border Convoy, who arrived in the Valley Friday, was at Saturdays protest to show support for the U.S. Defenders’ cause.
Moviemiento del Valle was also there protesting the Border Convoy being present in the Valley.
Both groups took their stand at the bridge for nearly an hour and a half.
Following the protest the U.S. Defenders delivered a letter to the Mexican consulate to release the jailed marine.
The Border Convoy told Action 4 News some members stayed at the border overnight to scout human smugglers and to see if any undocumented immigrants crossed the border.
