A La Joya ISD teacher is now on leave and behind bars after he was arrested for indecency with a child.
Jorge Alberto Gonzalez was arrested Thursday on indecency with a child charge.
La Joya ISD Police Chief Raul Gonzalez said that Gonzalez is a teacher at Jimmy Carter Early College High School.
Details were not available on the victim or on the incident that led to the 40-year-old teacher’s arrest.
Authorities said Gonzalez is a teacher at the high school, but is currently on leave with pay.
Gonzalez went before Judge Marcos Ochoa who set the 40-year-old man’s bond at $60,000.
The teacher remains behind bars at the Hidalgo County Jail.
It’s not known at this time how long Gonzalez has worked with the school district.
Chief Gonzalez said they are working with prosecutors on the case and also with a legal counsel to determine if Gonzalez will return to work.
The school district have not released a statment on Gonzalez's arrest.
