A Montgomery County teenager beat a pair of local police officers while being arrested late Friday night in East Earl Township.
A female officer was hospitalized, court documents show.
William E. Clayton, 18, punched and kicked East Earl police Officer Courtenay DeLaney and her partner while apparently in a drug-fueled rage, court documents show.
Clayton shook off a Taser zap during the assaults and yelled “America” and “Dropkick Murphys,” an arrest affidavit shows.
Clayton, of Audubon, is charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and possessing drug paraphernalia.
A local bondsman posted Clayton's $40,000 bail on Saturday, court records show.
Officer DeLaney was hospitalized after the 11:30 p.m. assault with cuts and bruises on her arms and legs, the affidavit shows.
East Earl police Chief Kevin McCarthy said Monday both officers returned to work without missing a shift.
Police initially encountered Clayton while responding to a hit-and-run crash at a furniture store on Division Highway.
His vehicle was seen trying to leave the scene of the crash, before Clayton abandoned it, the arrest affidavit shows.
A witness told police she saw Clayton “spinning the wheels” of his Monte Carlo after the crash.
The radio in the abandoned Monte Carlo was “blaring,” according to the affidavit.
McCarthy said police are still investigating what drug Clayton might have been on. Officers police found a glass pipe in his vehicle, the affidavit shows.
He was sweating profusely and talking incoherently during the encounter, according to the affidavit.
The Taser “had no effect,” Officer Michael Lutz, who also was assaulted, wrote in the affidavit.
Dropkick Murphys are a popular American Celtic punk-rock band.
Clayton also shouted out the name of his town: Audubon, the affidavit shows.
Clayton attended Garden Spot High School before moving to Montgomery County, according to his social-media page.
