Teen who killed 2 girls while drunk driving in 2013 sentenced to 1 year in county jail

19-year-old Wayne Lovato, who pleaded guilty to two counts of child abuse resulting in death another count of child abuse not resulting in death, was sentenced Monday to 364 days in county jail, followed by five years and supervised probation and a year with an ankle monitor.
Lovato was driving drunk on April 6, 2013 when he crashed, killing a 12 and 14-year-old girl and injuring several others. Eight people were in the car at the time of the crash; the two girls who died were riding on others' laps.
The crash happened just four days before Lovato's 18th birthday. Police say Lovato was driving southbound on I-25 near Tecolote when he crashed into the median and rolled the car twice.
Lovato faced up to nine years in prison on the charges. District Attorney Richard Flores told KOB that family members of the victims "forgave" Lovato in court.
