It Took the New York Times 17 Paragraphs to Mention This Important Detail in Their Story on CIA Report

12/12/2014

The New York Times’ lead story Tuesday on the CIA torture report buried the detail that the investigation was conducted by Senate Democrats.
It took the Times 17 paragraphs to note that the report was produced after an investigation by the Senate Intelligence Committee’s  ”Democratic majority and their staffs.” Republicans on the committee had chosen not to participate.

In comparison, other recent stories published by the newspaper about GOP-led investigations have immediately draw attention to that fact.
In an August story on a Republican-led investigation into the 2012 Benghazi attacks, the Times noted the fact in the first few words of the story. A November story on another GOP-led Benghazi investigation drew attention to that detail in the headline.
A representative for the Times was not immediately available for comment.
