NAME THAT PARTY: New Mexico DA Under Investigation

12/9/2014

Bernalillo County's district attorney is facing accusations that she offered to reimburse burglary victims to keep her son from being implicated as a suspect.  Albuquerque detectives say there is probable cause to file felony charges against District Attorney Kari Brandenburg.
Police are asking the state Attorney General's Office to review their investigation to see if Brandenburg violated state law prohibiting bribery and witness intimidation.
According to police documents, Brandenburg allegedly contacted victims in two burglaries and a larceny case involving her son, 26-year-old Justin Koch.
Attorney Peter Schoenburg, who is authorized to speak for Brandenburg, says she has never deviated from acting ethically and morally.
He says Brandenburg plans to address the matter at a press conference Monday.
