Soccer Wars Update: Two PSG Fans Stabbed Following Team’s Match with Barcelona

12/12/2014

BARCELONA – Two fans of French team Paris Saint Germain were injured after being stabbed in separate incidents on Wednesday following the Champions League game between PSG and Barcelona, authorities said Thursday.

It was not immediately clear if the two stabbings were somehow related, they added.

Authorities told Efe the first attack took place late Wednesday when two Barcelona fans attacked a group of PSG backers and Adrien J., a 28-year-old French national living in Barcelona, was stabbed.

Doctors at the hospital where he was treated said the victim was out of danger and in stable condition.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants loudly chanted Barcelona slogans and songs before stabbing the French fan with a knife.

A few minutes later, another group attacked three PSG fans near the Camp Nou stadium, slightly injuring a 35-year-old French national.

He was treated at hospital and released.

Police were investigating whether the second attack was linked to the soccer match or it was a robbery attempt, authorities said.

Police did not prevent PSG fans from leaving the stadium following the end of the game, which is normal procedure if authorities believe there could be skirmishes between supporters.

Barcelona’s fans are allowed to mix with fans of rival teams during Camp Nou matches, while Barça’s radical fans are confined to an isolated space on the stadium’s third level.
