Surprise: Obama Administration to Invoke Federal Supremacy Over Utah's Homosexual Marriage Rulings

Jan. 11, 2014

From Ed Whelan, at National Review, "AG Holder’s Lawless Action on Marriage in Utah":

Jaded as I am by the lawlessness of the Obama administration, I confess that I didn’t expect this:

Attorney General Eric Holder today declared that the federal government will recognize the supposed marriages of same-sex couples that occurred in Utah before the Supreme Court overturned federal district judge Robert J. Shelby’s wildly irresponsible failure to stay his judgment against Utah’s marriage laws. Holder’s statement mischaracterizes the Supreme Court’s order as an “administrative step.”

Worse, Holder wrongly invokes the Court’s anti-DOMA decision in Windsor v. United States to justify his action. But Windsor requires that the federal government treat as marriages those same-sex relationships that a state recognizes as marriages. It doesn’t call for the federal government to treat as marriages those same-sex relationships that the state in which the marriage supposedly took place does not recognize as marriages.

This administration's the biggest clown show. Worst job market in history and this is the freakin' top priority. Perverts.

Republicans Warn Sebelius Could Face Perjury Charges

Jan. 11, 2014

Which she and her big-eared boss will ignore, since it would be Eric "The Red" Holder's Department of Injustice & Revenge that would be in charge of the prosecution of said charges, which means Cruella would never be prosecuted.  I'm assuming Trey Gowdy knows this, but what he's doing is what the Left likes to call "raising consciousness" about an issue that needs to be flogged, even though it will never go anywhere.  Who knows, maybe it'll be a stepping stone to eventual impeachment of The One.

Hey, if you're going to fantasize, don't think small, I always say.

One More Circle of the Drain......

Jan. 11, 2014

Senate Democrats Thursday blocked a Republican attempt to restore military pensions cut in last month’s budget deal, denying a vote that would save up to $20 billion by closing a loophole that allows tax refunds to go to illegal aliens.

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D., Calif.) called an effort by Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R., N.H.) to repeal the military retiree cuts “fiddling while Rome burns.”

Earlier this week, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee Carl Levin (D., Mich.) backed away from support of Ayotte’s bill after first signaling his support. Levin was not aware of how the measure offset the cuts, and does not agree with closing the loophole that allows illegal immigrants to receive tax credits.

THE AUSTRAILIAN TEA PARTY IS ALIVE AND WELL!

Jan. 11, 2014

Open Letter to Nick Dyrenfurth

Nick Dyrenfurth
The Age
Melbourne
Sir

I am writing in response to the slanderous hit-piece you published on Cory Bernardi on 10 January 2014 (False Conservatives Mask Right-Wing Misfits”. As a member of the fourth estate I accept that you can have no conception, no understanding of Conservatism. I further understand you write for Fairfax and it’s your job to shill for the ALP and Greens. Normally, I would give the diatribes written by you and your ilk the attention they deserve (so do most people, it seems, given how Fairfax’s circulation seems to be falling at a pace commensurate with its leftist bias), but in this case I feel your lies, half-truths and misrepresentations require answer.

I’ll start with the byline, shall I (“Cory Bernardi is inspired more by America’s Tea Party than Britain’s Tories.”)? It was clearly written as an insult; a pejorative statement. As any true Conservative knows, however, the David Cameron Conservative Party of today bears precisely no resemblance to the Thatcher Conservative Party of the 80s. The Cameron Conservative Party has been utterly captured by the forces of multi-culturalism and globalism and is an acolyte of the climate change faith. I’m sure Mr Bernardi will be thrilled to be aligned with a wildly popular, grassroots movement like the American TEA Party movement rather than a pack of squishy, soft-left big-government pretenders like the Cameron gang!

You then proceed to attack Mr Bernardi’s writing on abortion (a “death industry” you wrote, again written with a sneer of which only an urban, latte-swilling Socialist elitist could be possible). I’m assuming you know what happens when an abortion is performed and on that basis, if abortion is not a death industry, then what is it? Of course it’s a death industry! In fact, in America it isn’t just a death industry, it’s a genocide and eugenics industry, with the founder of the largest abortion-provider (Planned Parenthood’s Margaret Sanger) on record as saying her goal was to wipe out African-Americans.

To the official of the Connecticut State Police who attempted to call me last night.

Jan. 11, 2014

Connecticut State Police emblem. The Latin means "He who Transplanted Sustains Us." It is the state motto and refers to the faith of the early settlers, although what they would make of this current crop of their descendants is subject to considerable debate.
To the official of the Connecticut State Police who attempted to call me last night:
Yeah, your caller ID showed up on my television screen, so yes, I deliberately ignored you. There were a couple of reasons for this. Number one, although I would have loved to get your voice on tape (Alabama is a one party state), I was upstairs and my recording equipment is downstairs. Number two, you called quite late at the end of a long and fatiguing day and frankly I just wasn't in the mood for whatever tyranneau games you were attempting to play. (Tyranneau is my new favorite French word. It means "petty tyrant." Something you Connecticut bureaucrats are getting pretty good at with your own people these days.)
However, if you still wish to communicate with me you may send me an email or drop me an official letter to my post office box.
If you're trying to guess why so few of your citizens are complying with the new unconstitutional law that you have been tasked to enforce (a thankless and dangerous job at best) you don't need me to figure that out. Think REAL hard. Then try to comprehend the titanic forces you are childishly and recklessly playing around with. Even an obtuse dictator-wannabe like Malloy should be able to grok the first. That he he doesn't understand the second is plain from his actions. And, I might add, it is equally plain that CSP officials don't get it either, given your slavish compliance to a plainly tyrannical and unconstitutional law. You DO recall that oath you took, right?
However, I am ready to answer whatever stupid questions you have. Just don't call me in the middle of the night.

Obvious: Principal fired for resisting agenda-driven "class division" of students

Jan. 10, 2014

Colo. principal said she was fired for opposing 'disrespectful' policy

An elementary school principal says she was fired for protecting children from embarassment.
Neol Roni says she fought against a policy that requires kids to get their hands stamped if they don’t have enough money for lunch.
“The kids are humiliated. They’re branded. It’s disrespectful,” she said. “Where’s the human compassion?”
Roni says some children were too embarrassed to go through the lunch line because of the practice.
When she told cafeteria workers to stop, she says higher ups at the school gave her a pink slip.
“I was shocked that their reaction was not outrage. That it was more of ‘who are you to tell us not to do this?’”
Roni is now fighting to get her job back.
The school says it can not comment as to why she was fired because it’s a personnel matter,  but it calls the allegations “baseless.”

California Communists Push For Mandatory Pre-School Endoctrination

Jan. 10, 2014

Getting a jump on a national movement to expand early childhood education, California Democrats on Tuesday proposed creating universal preschool for 4-year-olds.

The program would be voluntary, just as kindergarten is in California. Over a 5-year phase-in beginning in 2015-16 school year, it is estimated to cost about $1 billion.
But proponents argue that those costs would be offset by savings down the road. They point to studies showing that better preparation for academics would result in fewer children enrolled in costly special-education classes, and fewer students failing in school and ended up in prison.
The state already funds preschool for certain 4-year-olds -- those just missing the cutoff date to start kindergarten because they have birthdays toward the end of the year.
SB 837 would make that class, known as transitional kindergarten, available to all 4-year-olds.
"It's impossible to overstate how important these early years are to a child's future success in school," said state superintendent of schools Tom Torlakson, a co-sponsor of the legislation. "Transitional kindergarten -- particularly a full-year, full-day program -- can make all the difference, especially for families who may be struggling to give their young children these valuable learning opportunities."

St. Louis County man brutally beaten after asking neighbor to move his car

A St. Louis County man says he was brutally attacked by his own neighbor over parking spot.

Michael Rainer says the attack happened when he asked his neighbor, 20-year-old Brendan Young, to move a car blocking his driveway.
“I saw a foot just ‘bam’right into my face,” Rainer said. “He kicked me in my face and I hit the ground and that’s all I remember.”
He doesn’t remember anything else from the attack because he was knocked unconscious, but that didn’t stop the beating.
Pictures from his hospital bed show the degree of viciousness behind an attack which left Rainer with bruises, swelling and stitches on his face—unable to even open his left eye.
“My whole left side is fractured. I got a broke bone right here they got to do plastic surgery when i go back to the hospital,” he said. “For real they could have took my life. They were trying to kill me that’s just point blank.”
Blood from the fight can still be seen on a nearby light pole where Rainer says the group of men bashed his head.
His wife came running to help her unconscious husband but was met with threats as well
“They told her ‘b--, if you call the police give me your phone I’ll beat your a—like that,” Rainer said.
Police were called to the scene and arrested Young and another man who are now both facing felony assault charges. At least one is still in custody.
“I’m hurt by the situation not just because of this but because all I did was ask you a question,” Rainer said.

Journey disrupted for Immigrants seeking a "Better Life in America"

Arrest exposes transnational auto theft ring

Eloisa Elizonda made a point to be at the San Juan Police Department Thursday afternoon.
She wanted to see the woman who has cost her thousands of dollars.
"I wanted to ask her where my vehicle was so maybe I could recover it," Elizonda said.
Elizonda will have to wait to face the woman who allegedly stole her Jeep because she was not allowed into the small courtroom.
Thursday afternoon, a judge formally charged Lilliana Salgado for allegedly stealing Elizonda's Jeep Liberty from a church parking lot last month.
Salgado was handed over to San Juan Police after being arrested for stealing another car in McAllen.
"She was already a suspect in McAllen police  in some other auto thefts," Sgt. Rolando Garcia said.
Elizonda says the arrest is a bittersweet moment that she's been waiting to see happen for the past three weeks.
"Because she got caught, at least one person is off the streets that is stealing cars," she said.
Police were able to identify Salgado from video surveillance at an international bridge that shows her driving the jeep into Mexico less than an hour after it was stolen.
Now investigators believe Salgado is part of a larger auto theft ring and hope her arrest may lead to many more.
"Just with the intent of getting the car into another country tells us that it's something that is more organized and it's not just her," Sgt. Garcia said.
Although Salgado is now in police custody, Elizonda's Jeep is still missing and will likely never be recovered.
Elizonda had liability insurance and was still making auto loan payments on her used car.
She said next time she will make sure she protects herself financially.
"I hope that it (the jeep) is recovered in the future but if not I guess this is a lesson learned that we need to get our cars fully insured," she said.
Salgado  was given a $30,000 bond.

Beware the Left-Wing-Funded "Main Street" Republicans

Jan. 10, 2014

What do George Soros, labor unions and money-grubbing former GOP Rep. Steven LaTourette all have in common? They're control freaks. They're power hounds. They're united against tea party conservatives. And they all have operated under the umbrella of D.C. groups masquerading as "Main Street" Republicans.
LaTourette heads up the so-called "Main Street Partnership," which claims to represent "thoughtful," "pragmatic," "common sense" and "centrist" Republican leadership. Reality check: The pro-bailout, pro-debt, pro-amnesty, anti-drilling group founded by former liberal New York GOP Congressman Amory Houghton includes three liberal Senate Republicans (John McCain, Mark Kirk and Susan Collins) and 52 center-left House Republicans. LaTourette himself is a self-serving Beltway barnacle who held office for nearly two decades. Now he's leveraging his new tea party-bashing platform to benefit a family-operated lobbying business.
The New York Times shed light on LaTourette's tangled web of GOP establishment outfits last week. But that story just scratched the surface. As the paper reported, the Main Street Partnership is a nonprofit group that charges members up to $25,000 per year to rub elbows with Washington's rich and powerful. The Main Street Advocacy Fund and the Defending Main Street SuperPAC are political satellites planning to amass $8 million to bolster Republican liberals and moderates facing tea party challengers in 2014. McDonald Hopkins Government Strategies is LaTourette's lobbying firm.
The Times notes that "corporations and lobbyists" fund the Main Street Partnership. But far-left donors provided seed money for these affiliated K Street fronts. Who's behind the Defending Main Street SuperPAC? Big Labor. National Journal's Scott Bland reported last month that "two labor organizations, the International Union of Operating Engineers and the Laborers' International Union of North America, directed a combined $400,000 to the Republican group in September and October. Main Street says it has raised roughly $2 million total between its super PAC and an affiliated nonprofit group so far -- and that means labor has supplied at least 20 percent of those funds."
Along with the anti-tea party U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the "Main Street" fat cats and union leaders have banded together to help President Obama push through illegal alien amnesty. The payoff: cheap labor for big business, cheap votes for the Democratic Party.
Main Street Partnership's chief operating and financial officer is Sarah Chamberlain Resnick. She also serves on the partnership's board of directors and previously served as an officer of the soft-money-raising Main Street Individual Fund. The MSIF is yet another spinoff group that received $50,000 from progressive billionaire George Soros in 2002 soon after it was created. Soros also dangled a "seven-figure contribution" in front of the Main Street Partnership, but Resnick said the group declined that one. The MSIF accepted a separate $50,000 Soros donation during the 2004 election cycle. It was mysteriously returned in November 2005 after I called attention to it.
These various groups are legally independent entities on paper, but have shared staff and legal resources. When I reported on the "Main Street" farce eight years ago, the partnership's counsel sent me a threatening letter baselessly claiming I had made "libelous" statements about its network. My sin? Exposing the radical environmental funders of "Main Street" Republicans who had sabotaged House conservative efforts to open up drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
The "Main Street" Republicans back then gloated over their successful campaign to force squishy GOP leaders in D.C. to cave in to the left. There's nothing principled about their agenda. It's not about "common sense." It's about the Benjamins. These statists in populist clothing are running a Washington incumbency protection racket. Same as it ever was.

Walmart Employees Health Plan is Cheaper and has more Coverage than Obamacare

Jan. 10, 2014

New Obamacare health insurance enrollees may feel a pang of envy when they eye the coverage plans offered by Walmart to its employees.
For many years, the giant discount retailer has been the target of unions and liberal activists who have harshly criticized the company's health care plans, calling them “notorious for failing to provide health benefits” and "substandard.”
But a Washington Examiner comparison of the two health insurance programs found that Walmart's plan is more affordable and provides significantly better access to high-quality medical care than Obamacare.
Independent insurance agents affiliated with the National Association of Health Underwriters and health policy experts compared the two at the request of the Examiner.
Walmart furnished employee benefit information to the Examiner. Neither Obamacare advocate Families USA nor the United Food and Commercial Workers, which backs anti-Walmart campaigns, responded to Examiner requests for comment.
Walmart offers its employees two standard plans, a Health Reimbursement Account and an alternative it calls "HRA High" that costs more out of employees' pockets but has lower deductibles. Blue Cross Blue Shield manages both plans nationally.
Also offered is a Health Savings Account plan that includes high deductibles but allows tax-free dollars to be used for coverage
For a monthly premium as low as roughly $40, an individual who is a Walmart HRA plan enrollee can obtain full-service coverage through a Blue Cross Blue Shield preferred provider organization. A family can get coverage for about $160 per month.
Unlike Obamacare, there are no income eligibility requirements. Age and gender do not alter premium rates. The company plan is the same for all of Walmart's 1.1 million enrolled employees and their dependents, from its cashiers to its CEO.

The United States of America Police Force

Jan. 10, 2014

FWD: FW: CHECK THIS OUT

This is creepy!!

The United States of America, Police Force,  Whether we like it or not.  Thank you Mr. Obama, or should I say HEIL.

They really are here, it just isn’t rumor any more.

Photographed in western Colorado. We will be seeing more and more of these in the coming months.
October 26, 2013 via Facebook Mobile on my phone.

So, as I was about to park, I saw this vehicle, so I quickly got out of my car and took a picture as it drove by.  As the driver saw me do this, he slammed on the brakes, and asked, "Do you have a problem?"  To which I replied, "Just taking a picture. Is that illegal now?"  He then eked forward a few feet and stayed there in the middle of the road for about a minute and a half until a car approached him from behind, forcing him to move...   This, ladies and gentlemen, is the FEDERAL POLICE FORCE (or Federal Protective Service, or United States Secret Service Uniformed Division as they are also known) we have been hearing about and the actual recipients of all that billions (yes, billions) of rounds of ammunition that is being produced for and procured by the Social Security Admin, The IRS, and other various government agencies for what purpose.  They are here, right in Downtown Grand Junction.   What is the real purpose of a Federal Protective Service and why do we need them?   Feel safe yet?   Google, United States Secret Service Uniformed Division and see what you find.

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

PAINSTAKING: Taxing U.S. Businesses

Jan. 10, 2014

If you do business in the United States, how much can you expect to have to pay in federal businesses taxes?

U.S. Federal Corporate Tax Rate Schedule
Taxable Income Over…But Not Over…Tax Is:Of the Amount Over…
$0$50,00015%$0
$50,000$75,000$7,500 + 25%$50,000
$75,000$100,000$13,750 + 34%$75,000
$100,000$335,000$22,250 + 39%$100,000
$335,000$10,000,000$113,900 + 34%$335,000
$10,000,000$15,000,000$3,400,000 + 35%$10,000,000
$15,000,000$18,333,333$5,150,000 + 38%$15,000,000
$18,333,333Infinity35%$0
That's the question we'll help you answer today, which is really surprising in that it's taken us over nine years to get around to answering it! Especially since we've focused on the employee-side of that tax math from almost the very beginning!

But we're going to correct that today, applying the tax rate schedule we found published in the IRS' instructions for compleing Form 1120, which is the equivalent of Form 1040 for many U.S. businesses. And that's where we found the following tax rate schedule for corporate income, which is really the business' pretax earnings, or what's left of its total revenues after deducting all its operating expenses.

But that's not the only taxes that businesses pay to the federal government! Assuming that the business has employees, it is also subject to the employer portion of the U.S. federal payroll taxes for both Social Security and Medicare.

Here, a U.S. business has to pay an amount equal to 6.2% of the amount of each of its employees' wages or salaries (up to a maximum of $7,254 each in 2014) for the employer portion of Social Security taxes, as well an additional amount equal to 1.45% of each of its employees' pay, with no maximum amount per employee, for the employer portion of Medicare's payroll taxes.

For the sake of keeping things as simple as possible, that's as complicated as we're going to make it. Our default data is consistent with values that might be typical for a small business, but there's nothing to stop you from changing it to suit your needs to estimate your potential federal business tax burden.
