BAGHDAD – At least eight people were killed and 15 injured, mostly security forces, in a triple suicide bombing against an Iraqi military base in Al-Taji, 20 kilometers (some 12 miles), north of Baghdad, a security source told Efe on Thursday.
The source said that the final death toll may increase as some of the injured were in serious condition.
The first explosion came after an explosives-packed vehicle driven by a suicide bomber blew up at one of the entrances to a barracks, and then two other bombers wearing explosive belts detonated in the same place.
Suspicion immediately fell on the Islamic State jihadist group which has been fighting government forces since June after advancing into Iraq from neighboring Syria.
According to the Iraqi government, over 15,000 people were killed and 22,000 were injured in terrorist attacks and other violent acts in the country during 2014.
