NO CHARGES IN REPORTED CARJACKING ATTEMPT OF HOMELAND SECURITY AGENT IN WILMINGTON

Authorities say no charges will be filed against a man taken into custody after a reported attempted carjacking of a federal agent.
Authorities say no charges will be filed against a man taken into custody after what was reported as an attempted carjacking of a Homeland Security special agent in Wilmington, Delaware.

It happened in broad daylight, around 8:00 a.m. Friday at 11th and Tatnell streets.

Authorities say the special agent was parking a government vehicle in a parking garage.

He was on the second floor of the garage trying to park the vehicle when it was originally reported that a man tried to steal the car.

The agent fired a single shot from his government issued handgun. Neither the special agent nor the man were harmed.

The man then ran from the garage and was quickly arrested by Wilmington Police nearby.

He was taken into custody but has since been released with no charges filed.

Authorities say the man's actions did not rise to an attempted carjacking.

At this point, it's not clear if the agent fired in self defense or discharged his weapon accidentally. That will be part of the internal investigation.

Immigration and Customs enforcement is handling the investigation into the agent's actions.
