Is Texas turning into California?

Is Texas turning into California?
Gov.-elect Greg Abbott thinks so.
"Texas is being California-ized and you may not even be noticing it," Abbott told the Texas Public Policy Foundation, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
Abbott warned that local laws, including bans on plastic shopping bags, regulations for cutting down trees and prohibitions on hydraulic fracturing in city limits, may eventually turn Texas into California.
"We’re forming a patchwork quilt of bans and rules and regulations that is eroding the Texas model," Abbott told the conservative think tank, according to the Express-News.
Liberal magazine Mother Jones picked up the comments Monday and tweaked Abbott, reminding him that a majority of Texans now live in large cities.
"The state GOP, sandwiched in between the big federal government and a lot of pesky little local ones, almost seems to be defending the political equivalent of the Alamo," wrote Josh Harkinson of Mother Jones. "Almost, but not quite: The Alamo is in San Antonio, now a stronghold of Democrats."
