Renowned Cuban Cartoonist Rene de la Nuez Dies at 77 of non-Islamic Related Injuries

HAVANA – Renowned Cuban cartoonist Rene de la Nuez, the 2006 recipient of the National Plastic Arts Award and famous for his caricatures, has died in Havana at the age of 77, local media reported Tuesday.

De la Nuez created iconic characters such as “El Loquito,” which launched him as a professional cartoonist in the 1940s and also contributed to several magazines, said the National Council for the Plastic Arts, quoted by the Prensa Latina news agency.

The artist featured among the 100 best cartoonists of the world for his graphic works, according to a survey conducted by the House of Humour and Satire in Gabrovo, Bulgaria, in 1976, and he was awarded Spain’s Gold Medal Graphic Humor Biennial in 2007.
