Shots Fired Near VP Biden’s Home

1/19/2015

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Secret Service reported Sunday that someone fired several shots last night near the home of Vice President Joe Biden in Delaware, although neither the vice president nor anyone in his family were there at the time.

According to White House sources cited by NBC, the vice president and his wife, Jill Biden, have been informed of the incident, which occurred on Saturday night but was only announced on Sunday.

Secret Service agents responsible for Biden’s security said that the incident occurred at 8:25 p.m. when a vehicle sped along a public roadway toward the security perimeter established around the house. Someone in the car fired several shots in the direction of the residence.

The Secret Service was unable to arrest the person suspected of opening fire from the vehicle, but New Castle County police arrested and are questioning a person who was shortly thereafter found to be driving at high speed through the area, although it is not clear whether that person is connected with the gunfire incident.

The Secret Service is carefully examining the exterior of Biden’s residence, where the vice president often spends the weekends, for possible bullet marks.

Biden’s home is located several hundred yards from the main road and is not visible from the street.
