Apple to Open Huge Data Center in U.S. State of Arizona

2/4/2015

SAN FRANCISCO – U.S. tech giant Apple is to invest $2 billion to build a data center in the state of Arizona which will add around 600 jobs, state authorities announced Monday.

The center will be located in a facility in the city of Mesa which Apple had planned to use to make sapphire glass for its products together with GT Advanced Technologies.

However, the plan fell through after the company failed to meet the quality requirements of the California-based company.

According to Apple, the new data center in Arizona will serve as a command center for the company’s global networks.

“We’re proud to continue investing in the U.S. with a new data center in Arizona, which will serve as a command center for our global networks,” said Kristin Huguet, a spokesperson for Apple.

The new center is expected to be completely powered with renewable energy.

Hailing it as “a great day for Arizona,” Gov. Doug Ducey called Apple’s decision to bring this new facility to Mesa “a huge win for Arizona.”

The data center is expected to employ 150 full-time Apple employees and create 300 to 500 construction and trade jobs.
