Bomb Threat Near Oscars Venue False Alarm

2/21/2015

LOS ANGELES – Police in Los Angeles investigating a bomb threat near the Dolby Theater, the venue for the upcoming Academy Awards, have announced that the incident turned out to be a false alarm.

Police Lieutenant Michael Ling told local media late Thursday that a man in his 30s was arrested after driving suspiciously close to the area where the Oscars ceremony is to be held on Sunday.

The suspect later told the authorities that he was carrying explosives in the trunk of his car.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) bomb squad took over the situation and opened the trunk with the help of a robot and a water cannon, police said.

The incident, which took place at the corner of Highland and Yucca streets, forced authorities to stop traffic in the area while the investigation was carried out.
