BAD IDEA: Keeping Marital Or Parental Status Off Job Applications

HARRISBURG – Legislation that would prohibit employers from discriminating based on a job applicant’s marital or parental status has been introduced by Fayette County Rep. Pam SnyderUnder House Bill 1984,employers would be prohibited from asking job applicants of any gender if they have children, plan to have children or are married. Snyder said there are instances where the best-qualified applicant makes it to the final stages in the job-application process only to be disqualified based on responses to marital and family status questions. House Bill 1984 was referred to the House Labor and Industry Committee.
