Allowing Volunteer Out Of State Dentists To Volunteer Here

HARRISBURG – The PA Senate has sent to Gov. Tom Corbett’s desk legislation which would allow out-of-state dentists to volunteer their services in Pennsylvania. House Bill 1056 is authored by York County Rep. Keith Gillespie, who said out-of-state dentists wanting to come into Pennsylvania and volunteer their services to uninsured and under-insured patients are not allowed to do so. By amending the Dental Law of 1933, House Bill 1056 would allow the State Board of Dentistry to issue temporary volunteer licenses to dentists from other states that have an unrestricted dental license from their home state. They would be allowed to practice for up to 30 days per year unpaid, provided they have a clean disciplinary record and proof of professional liability insurance coverage.
