Wendy Davis calls for mandatory endoctrination for all Pre-Kindergarten children in Texas

4/13/2014

SAN MARCOS, TX (AP) -- Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis is calling for pre-kindergarten for all Texas youngsters -- fresh off a much-publicized chat with President Barack Obama.
The state senator from Fort Worth appeared with Leticia Van de Putte, a fellow state senator and Democratic lieutenant governor hopeful, at the Texas State Teachers Association convention in San Marcos on Saturday.
Davis met briefly with Obama on Thursday, while he was in nearby Austin for a civil rights summit honoring the accomplishments of President Lyndon B. Johnson.
She is considered a gubernatorial underdog against Republican Attorney General Greg Abbott.
Abbott has unveiled a plan calling on school districts to improve preschool quality before the state considers spending for full-day programs.
But Davis said that anything less than universal, full-day pre-kindergarten will leave many students behind.
