An adult day care driver is behind bars after he allegedly participated in a two-man gang rape of a mentally handicapped woman.
Cameron County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested 54-year-old Juan Vega on an aggravated sexual assault charge on Monday.
Court records obtained by Action 4 News show Vega is accused of being one of two men who raped a 37-year-old mentally handicapped woman.
The 54-year-old worked as a driver for the Sunglo Adult Day Care off Scott Brown Road in San Benito where the victim was a client.
Vega and another man, who is also a client at the adult day care, picked up the woman back on June 30th.
The two allegedly took the woman to a home in El Ranchito, raped her and then dropped her off at a Stripes store off Military Highway and FM 1577.
Records show that the woman walked back home and told her family what happened prompting an investigation.
Action 4 News does not identify victims of sexual abuse but family members told deputies that the woman is 37 years old but has the mind of a 7-year-old child.
Records reveal that deputies have physical evidence of the rape and were able to get surveillance video of when Vega dropped off the woman in his truck.
Vega allegedly told deputies that the second man had been talking to the woman for at least a week and planned everything out.
Deputies have not arrested the second suspect at this time but have identified him.
Vega remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail under a $75,000 dollar bond.
Sunglo Adult Day Care released the following statement about the incident:
"Sunglo Home Health, Inc. has been informed of an unfortunate incident involving an employee of our company. We along with the state and police are investigating the matter."
