NAME THAT PARTY: Activist, candidate gets jail in neighbor beef

11/18/2014

PITTSBURGH —
A community activist and former mayoral candidate has been sentenced to three to six months in jail on charges that he fought with a neighbor.
Thirty-eight-year-old Abdula Jamal "A.J." Richardson won't be spending time in jail, however, because he was given credit for more than four months he served awaiting trial on charges including simple assault, trespass, harassment and resisting arrest.
Police say Richardson entered the neighbor's home without permission in September 2013, yelling at the man and poking him under the eye, before running away. Police arrived to find Richardson drunk, combative and refusing to answer questions.
Richardson, who is black, got less than 1 percent of the vote in last year's Democratic mayoral primary after berating three black officers who arrested him for drunken driving for being "subservient" to whites. He later apologized and pleaded guilty.
