Iron Maiden Lead Vocalist Diagnosed with Tongue Cancer

2/20/2015

LONDON – The lead singer in UK heavy-metal band Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson (56), announced on Thursday that he had undergone cancer treatment for a tongue tumor.

The band said in a statement released on its official website that Dickinson had completed seven weeks of chemotherapy and radiotherapy after being diagnosed with tongue cancer during a routine medical check-up performed a few days before Christmas.

“As the tumour was caught in the early stages, the prognosis thankfully is extremely good. Bruce’s medical team fully expect him to make a complete recovery, with the all-clear envisaged by late May,” read the online statement.

The iconic singer, who is also an aviation entrepreneur, pilot and investor in tech companies, will need a “few months” to get back to “full fitness.”

The band asked fans for “patience, understanding and respect for Bruce and his family’s privacy until we update everyone by the end of May.”

“Bruce is doing very well, considering the circumstances, and the whole team are very positive,” added the statement.

The legendary band’s most recent official tour took place in summer of 2014, when the group visited Barcelona and Bilbao in Spain, as well as 18 other European cities.
