Obamanomics Sparks Housing Boom in Baltimore! Millions on Waiting List

02/22/2014
Thanks to Obama's economics plan and Obamacare, more of us will have time to enjoy the great outdoors!

Baltimore's people of the woods: Inside the hidden homeless camps made of milk crates, wooden doors and tarps on the outskirts of town

  • Photographer Ben Marcin's series 'The Camps' captures makeshift settlements near railway lines, gas stations, Walmarts and bridges

  • He said many of Baltimore's homeless feel safer in the woods than in shelters

  • While most homes are made from tarps, some more elaborate constructions use milk crates and wooden doors

A sheet of plastic laid over a clothesline. A mini-fortress of milk crates stacked under a tree. A thin mattress on a flimsy crate lying in a dark tunnel.

On the edge of Baltimore's woodlands, dozens of the city's transients live in makeshift homes which they consider safer than homeless shelters.

Photographer Ben Marcin has captured some of the shanties in his thought-provoking photo essay, 'The Camps', documenting the struggle, loneliness and ingenuity of Maryland's people of the woods.

Similar to his Last House Standing series which captured lonely rowhouses around the Mid-Atlantic, Marcin shot the shanties around Baltimore without their inhabitants to add to the 'mystery'.

Marcin said he first stumbled upon the homeless dwellings as he hiked through the woods bordering the city during hunting season.

When he saw a 'mini-fortress' made of milk crates just yards from a major thoroughfare, Marcin began searching for other transients 'living off the grid'.

Most were based near railroad tracks, Walmarts, gas stations, and liquor stores.

Special touches: Despite living on the outskirts of town, shelter owners often tried to make their space homely with greeting mats and flower vases

While most of the camps Marcin came across used basic tarps or tents, several were quite elaborate such as this home built entirely of wooden doors

'I have always been interested in the unique places people live in, particularly where there exists an element of defiance or desperation, or both. In these situations, a house can often reflect the dilemma of its owner. In the case of the hobo camps, this reflection is quite pronounced for obvious reasons,' he told The Atlantic Cities.

'A sheet of plastic laid out over a clothesline may be the last stand for somebody who has either been rejected by society or who has refused to conform to whatever rules are being imposed on them.

'Several camp people I talked to said they wouldn't relocate into one of the City's shelters because they were afraid of being assaulted or having belongings stolen.'

Mystery: Marcin deliberately didn't photograph camp residents, instead focusing on how they lived, the mark they made and what they left behind

Marcin said about year after finishing the project, he returned to the woods to find all the camps were gone. One had burned to the ground, some had been bulldozed, while others moved to different locations.

'My guess is that these, too, will not be around for long,' he said.

Living off the grid: While some homes comprised a sheet over a branch, this settlement had a clothes line, barbecue and gym equipment

Say it isn't so: "Achy Breaky Heart 2" - The Twerking Version

Buck 22, Billy Ray Cyrus' 'Achy Breaky 2' Hits Hot 100

The rap send-up enters at No. 80, more than two decades after Cyrus' original topped Hot Country Songs.

Move over, Miley. There's a new Cyrus making waves on social media … or rather, an older one: her father, Billy Ray.

On Feb. 11, rapper Buck 22 released "Achy Breaky 2," a modernized dubstep-infused reworking of Cyrus' 1992 breakthrough smash "Achy Breaky Heart." The new version bows at No. 80 on the Billboard Hot 100 (and No. 11 on Hot Rap Songs), with nearly all its chart points owed to streaming. A total of 2.9 million U.S. YouTube streams of the song in the week ending Feb. 16, according to Nielsen BDS, spur its debut at No. 16 on the Streaming Songs chart.

The original "Achy Breaky Heart" (written by Don Von Tress) topped Hot Country Songs for five weeks and line-danced to No. 4 on the Hot 100 in 1992 (a few months before Miley was born). (Cyrus has charted 30 titles on Hot Country Songs, through his most recent in 2011).

The "Achy Breaky 2" video opens with a staged "breaking news" broadcast hosted by Larry King, who reports that an unidentified flying object is hovering over Daniel Boone National Forest over eastern Kentucky (which lies in between Nashville, Tenn., and Flatwoods, Ky., where Cyrus was born). Viewers are then transported to a spacecraft filled with (in true modern Cyrus form) scantily-clad twerking alien women.

In the clip, Cyrus asserts himself as the patriarch of Miley's twerking empire, exclaiming "wrecking ball!" after Buck 22 raps, "Miley's still twerkin', daddy's song is workin' … now Billy sing that crazy hook again!"
Despite the song's hyper-novelty value, Buck 22 is well-accomplished producer Damon Elliott, the son of jazz musician Bill Elliott and actress Dionne Warwick. He's produced for P!nk, Christina Aguilera, Beyonce and Destiny's Child and produced songs for soundtracks including 2002's "Austin Powers in Goldmember."

Elliott reportedly approached Cyrus about remaking the song. An intrigued Cyrus then decided to lay down the vocals and appear in the video.

UC Berkeley Liberals Expose Elementary Kids to Giant Penis and ‘Pin-The-Tail on the Anus’ Game

UC-Berkeley-Toss-the-Vagina

As debates continue on whose job it is to educate children and teens about sex- the parents or schools- University of California Berkeley, a liberal haven of radical social agendas, gave young elementary school children quite an “education” as they filed past a man in a giant penis costume who was handing out condoms and were exposed to other school-sponsored sex games such as “pin-the-tail on the anus.”
According to Campus Reform:
A group of elementary and middle school students touring University of California – Berkeley last week were exposed to a man in a giant penis costume and school-sponsored sex games.
“All day long, little kids were prancing by the dental dam demonstrations, sex-themed games of chance, and the guy in the penis suit,” student Claire Chiara said in an interview with Campus Reform Thursday.
The children were led through the campus quad while Berkeley students were playing “pin-the-tail on the anus” and tossing condoms through holes on a poster board meant to represent vaginas and anuses.
There was also a man dressed as a giant penis handing out condoms, although he was not permitted to hand them to the children.
The events were not spontaneous but pre-planned as part of the school’s celebration of National Condom Week.
“Every day of the week, we have kids aged 6-18 touring our school, which is fantastic — but not during the National Condom Week,” Chiara said. “It was poor planning on the part of the Tang Center to put up the Sex Ed tent in front of Sproul Hall, as that is the most popular spot on campus for tour groups to stop.”
Poor planning notwithstanding, why on Earth are tuition and state and federal tax dollars going to promoting such vulgarities as a game centered around tossing condoms through vaginas and anuses? Why, in order to spread the word about safe sex, must a man be adorned in a giant penis outfit? Have these people never heard of fliers?
Further, why did nobody pull the plug on this outrage after noticing there were children around? With this kind of lewdness being inappropriate for an academic setting, it is most certainly inappropriate for elementary school children to witness.
