Will Democracy Become Islam's Best Friend?
Millions of people in the Middle East want freedom, just as Eastern Europeans once did. Twenty years ago, the West was a role model, but it betrays its own values. In doing so, it is also strengthening its enemy: militant Islamism.

Why Reagan Triumphs Over Other Presidents, Even Today
What always strikes us is how comfortable and secure Ronald Reagan was in himself, on the trail, in the Oval, in meetings with strangers in the Roosevelt Room, in the general give and take of a public life. This authentic wholeness of life made the 'communicating' so compelling, the reducing to core principles so constant, effortless and nearly automatic. His humor, self-reflection and self-deprecation all natural, healthy, transparently honest. A mature man at home with himself and his country, seamlessly.
Islamic socialism
Islamic socialism is a term coined by various Muslim leaders to meet the demand for a more spiritual form of socialism. Muslim socialists believe that the teachings of the Qur'an and Muhammad are compatible with principles of equality and the redistribution of wealth. But some orthodox Islamic scholars declare various socialist practices, such as the confiscation of private property, to be oppressive and against Islamic teachings.....
The Mindset of Supposed Entitlement
To what lengths will cash strapped Democrat controlled states, counties and municipalities go to fatten their coffers to pay for their inflated budgets? While law enforcement should be chasing “bad guys” – the crack dealer, the murderer, the thief – those types of law breakers only strain an already tight budget filled with this gimme program and that gimmie program. No, all you have to do is follow the money trail. One look at Rhode Island will illustrate just that.

Planned Parenthood was founded by Margaret Sanger. Sanger believed and practiced a science known as eugenics. When the Government Switches off the Internet...
Here's an interesting post from PCWorld, advising freedom-lovers on precautions they should be taking now - should the Government "switch off the internet". Note, the technical terminology in this article may go over the heads of many of my readers! Ask your 10yr-old to explain it to you!
Rewriting Ronald Reagan: How the Media Have Worked to Distort, Dismantle and Destroy His Legacy
As the nation prepares to pay tribute to former President Ronald Reagan on the 100th anniversary of his birth, it is amazing to consider that his success at turning the U.S. away from 1960s-style liberalism was accomplished in the face of a daily wave of news media hostility. The media’s first draft of history was more myth than reality: that Reagan only brought the nation poverty, ignorance, bankruptcy, and a dangerously imbalanced foreign and defense policy.

PRINCETON, NJ -- Unemployment, as measured by Gallup without seasonal adjustment, increased to 9.8% at the end of January -- up from 9.6% at the end of December, but down from 10.9% a year ago.
Ecofascist Teacher Makes Example of Six-Year-Old
To instill eco-obedience, our moonbat rulers have to start young, before we're capable of realizing that their rules are arbitrary and meaningless, serving only as an excuse to exercise coercion for the sake of coercion. For example:
A couple in Laval, Que. has sparked a fierce debate over how far schools should go to teach children about environmental responsibility after their six-year-old son was shut out of a kindergarten draw to win a stuffed animal because he had an environmentally unfriendly sandwich bag in his lunchbox.
Marc-André Lanciault said he hadn't heard of the school's draw or any environmental policy until his wife, Isabel Théorêt, was making their son Félix a sandwich and he begged them not to put it in a plastic bag.
"He said, 'No mommy, you can't do that. Not a Ziploc,'" Mr. Lanciault said.
Through tears, the boy told his parents that the school had held a draw to win a stuffed teddy bear and only children who didn't have any plastic sandwich bags could enter. The family normally uses Tupperware, but it was all in the dishwasher, and so they had packed their son's ham sandwich in a plastic bag.
When Mr. Lanciault questioned his son's teacher, she confirmed the school had staged the draw at a lunchtime daycare and that any student with a plastic sandwich bag was excluded. "You know Mr. Lanciault, it's not very good for the environment," the teacher told him.
It doesn't matter whether reusable containers that have to be washed are any better for the environment than plastic bags, which is under debate. The point is to single out those whose parents don't conform to the latest moonbat fad as eco-sinners.
Mr. Lanciault nearly grasps the essence of enviromoonbattery:
"At the end of the day my son doesn't know why he shouldn't use a Ziploc bag. It's not only the bag, it's the whole idea that we're being brainwashed from everywhere. They told us Ziploc bags are bad, so we've stopped thinking about it and just started applying the rule."
There is no reason not to use plastic bags, other than the high priests of political correctness having proclaimed them to be sinful. The point is the same as for religious dietary restrictions: to obey for the sake of obeying in a show of obeisance. Does even a New York Times reader really think that forbidding affordable light bulbs will improve the weather, or that sentencing millions of Third World children to death by malaria is less harmful than essentially harmless DDT?
The targets of environmental proscriptions are chosen more or less randomly. Why not declare that the color orange makes ice caps melt? Or that the letter R threatens the habitat of the delta smelt? It would make as much sense as singling out a small child for ostracization over a sandwich bag.

It’s the 21st Century, and Commie Camps still Exist
I assumed that in the 21st century, those days of Red summer camps had come to an end. Alas, that is not the case. Evidently Gabe Zimmerman, the director of community outreach for Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) who died standing by her side in the Tucson shootings, was a proud counselor in 2001 at one of these remaining camps, Camp Kinderland in Eastern Massachusetts.
Obama Renominates Judge with Record of Racial Double Standards
In a further demonstration of the Obama administration’s hypocrisy on racial policy, the president recently renominated James E. Graves for a federal judgeship. Those who have followed the New Black Panther Party voter intimidation scandal at the Holder Justice Department know that his administration’s political appointees have exhibited a blatant racial double standard — they are not interested in prosecuting minority defendants for civil rights violations. Graves apparently has a similarly skewed view of race, which raises further grave concerns that such race-conscious approaches to the law are not only acceptable, but seen as worthy of lifetime appointments by those at the very top of the administration.
Judge Holds Lawless Obama Interior Department in Contempt
The federal judge who struck down the Obama administration's moratorium on deepwater drilling after the Gulf oil spill held the Interior Department in contempt Wednesday, and ordered the federal agency to pay attorneys' fees for several offshore oil companies.
U.S. District Judge Martin Feldman chided the department for its "dismissive conduct" after he overturned the agency's decision to halt any new permits for deepwater projects and suspend drilling on 33 exploratory wells after the Deepwater Horizon blast, which killed 11 workers and triggered the massive spill.
After Feldman overturned the government's moratorium in June, the agency issued a second nearly identical suspension.
"Such dismissive conduct, viewed in tandem with the reimposition of a second blanket and substantively identical moratorium and in light of the national importance of this case, provide this court with clear and convincing evidence of the government's contempt of this court's preliminary injunction order," he wrote.

Nearly a year and a half into the economic recovery, some 43.6 million Americans continued to rely on food stamps in November.
More than 14% of the population drew food stamps in November to purchase groceries as high unemployment and muted wage growth crimped budgets. The number of recipients was up 0.9% from October, according to the new report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Compared to a year ago, the number of people receiving food stamps was up 14.2%.

San Francisco May Ban the Phone Book
San Francisco obviously doesn't like the free markets. Their attack on free market activities continues to amaze me. You may remember SF launched the war against the Happy Meal. Well, now they are launching a war against the phone book. Now remember, phone books are printed by private companies who sell advertising, and while they aren't as common as they used to be--kind of like Newspapers, if you know what I mean--they still are a legitimate form of commerce that SF now wants to outlaw.
On Tuesday, the city’s Board of Supervisors President David Chiu introduced legislation that would ban the unsolicited distribution of the Yellow Pages.
The argument of course overlooks the jobs created by producing a phone book, which are recyclable and made from recycled materials in most cases, and it centers around the environment.
“If we’re serious about the environment, it‘s time we recognize that phone books are a 20th century tool that doesn’t meet the business or environmental needs of the 21st century,” said Chiu.
I think this discriminates, especially against seniors who haven't adopted the Internet as a useful tool for their lives. How are they going to be able to look up doctors and other services if they aren't allowed a phone book? SF is attacking an industry once again, just like they did the fast food industry rather than giving people the freedom to choose whether or not they want a phone book or not.

The Obama snub is the first sign of how the administration will respond to demands for documents and testimony by key officials ... now that the GOP holds the power of congressional subpoena... [Committee Chairman Darrell Issa stated that] “I asked DHS to produce this information by Jan. 29 – two weeks from the date of my second letter ... The department gave no indication that it would not be able to comply with the deadline.”
Under the Progressive notion of a “living” Constitution, almost every aspect of the Constitution has been subject to reinterpretation. One section that would seem to defy a new interpretation, however, is Article I, Section 7, Clause 2 – or the “Presentment Clause” – which clearly outlines the process by which a bill becomes a law.
